Sciatica pain relief is the first thing a person seeks when experiencing inflammation of the sciatic nerve. For some, the pain can be so excruciating that even doing the simplest of things becomes impossible. Walking across the kitchen or bending down to pick up a dropped object seems almost as difficult as running a marathon. Even in more moderate cases sciatica can hamper regular activity, creating frustration and stress. Finding an effective form of sciatica pain relief will vary from person to person just as the symptoms of sciatica differ in individuals.

Many health professionals feel sciatica pain relief should be addressed before the cause of the sciatica itself. For instance, if a herniated disc is the diagnosed cause of the sciatica, a physical therapist may use a technique of decompressing the spine to help relieve the pressure. This technique involves the patient laying stationary on a treatment bed while a machine gently pulls the lower half of the body away, stretching the spine and creating space in the spinal canal. Another therapy is the use of mild electrical currents to block the nerves from receiving pain signals. The physical therapist also employs the use of exercise to help increase the flexibility of the muscles involved which also help with sciatica relief.
